Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a relatively short-term, focused psychotherapy for a various psychological problems including depression, anxiety, anger, marital conflict, loneliness, panic, fears, eating disorders, substance abuse, alcohol abuse and dependence and personality problems. This Cognitive Therapy focuses on how you are thinking, behaving, and communicating today rather than on your early past experiences. 

Cognitive Therapy helps the patient to learn effective self-help skills that help you change the way you think🤔, feel and behave now. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is action-oriented, practical⚙️, rational, and helps the patient gain independence and effectiveness in dealing with real-life issues. 

As 2020 has been an quite eventful year with every possible disaster from Bushfires🔥 to Cyclones🌪️ in just a span of few months. But the biggest ever threat of this year is the Outbreak of deadly CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)😷, which has resulted into LOCKDOWN 🔒process. During this long period, most of us are to be found in a depressed mode or facing some psychological problems. They may be experiencing stress, frustrations, anxiety, loneliness, etc due to various reasons such as thinking about their future - how it will be?, tension of present financial situation, not happening like they want, etc. So to overcome / reduce such stress & depression, this Cognitive Therapy will really help you to be stress free and help to live a positive and a better life.

So, LET'S BEGIN --


COGNITIVE THERAPY : 



Cognitive Therapy works beautifully and it a very effective therapy. Let's come to know How this Therapy works - with a short Story 📰/ Example : 

One doctor was there, whose Name was Dr. Hanson👨‍⚕️, who was an psychiatrist. As many patients were visiting daily to him, who were fighting with stress, depression, anxiety and other mental problems. As doctor would treat them carefully and suggest some medicines💊 on it. But there was a problem, that such medicines were able to reduce / overcome psychological problems of few patients only. 
So, Doctor thought that there must be some Better & Effective Way💡 to deal with all such problems. So, once he visited his friend who was also an great psychiatrist. From his friend, Doctor came to know about this very powerful and effective Therapy known as "COGNITIVE THERAPY".

As this Cognitive Therapy works on the 3 - Basic Steps / Rules.

Following are the 3 - Basic Steps / Rules given and Explained.

  1. Event doesn't decides the Mood, But what you think about that event, decides your feelings & emotions which creates Mood.
  2. Identify & Try to Overcome Negative distortions.
  3. Train people as they Think 🙄.

Change in Thinking Process

Ok... Be Relax😌. Let's come to know what does this phrase tells, in a simple manner with an small example : 

Two friend's Santosh & Shyam👬 were walking on a footpath. And while walking they were continuously talking with each other. However, there was an Banana Peel🍌 lying on their way and they do not came to know about it. As Santosh got slipped due to that banana peel and got angry😡 and said, 'Who is this fool throwed this banana peel here ?', started giving harsh🤬 words in his mind whoever thrown it. And then they both leaved.

When they were returning back, Now this time Shyam got slipped due to that Banana Peel. Instead of getting frustrated he gave a happy smile🙂 and said, 'Thank God ! I didn't fell down' & then thrown that Banana Peel in nearby dustbin so that others do not get slipped.

You may see that event was same for both, but their reactions/thoughts were totally different. As their reactions were different, there will be major difference between both of their moods/emotions. So keep in mind, that THOUGHTS are very important. What you think about that event, hence decides your Mood. This Rule No. 1 is the first step to help you to reduce your psychological problems. Do try it !

✔️ Identify & Try to Overcome Negative distortions :

Identify Negative Distortions

One of the main cause of feeling depressed or experiencing frustration / stress, is due to more Negative (-ve) Distortions arising in your inner mind🧠. As negative thinking may also affect your Mental health. It can also reduce your thinking-speed process, reduce your Productivity & Performance which will lead into stress, frustration, anxiety and other Psychological Problems. 
So try to identify🔍 what type of Negative / Cognitive Distortions that you are feeling and try to fight with it, and overcome on it. As from various research & studies🔬 we have came to know, normally there are 8 - 10 type of Negative / Cognitive Distortions that makes person feels depressed and stressful.

✔️ Train people as they Think 🙄 :

Thought Replacement

So, in 1st Rule : We learn that Thought 💭creates Mood & in 2nd Rule : We have came to know what type of Negative Distortions we may be experiencing and how to overcome on it. 
So, try to Train people in this type of pattern only. After overcoming / reducing your Negative Distortions, there will be complete change in your Thinking Process and your Thoughts. And when Thoughts will change, it will automatically leads to changes in your feelings & emotions☺️, which will create your Mood. There will be major difference between the Thoughts that you were experiencing before & the Thoughts you are experiencing in present.

After hearing this rules, Dr. Hanson told, 'What Non-sense'. Positive Thinking😇 is good, but this Therapy may not work on my severe patients. Then Dr's Friend said to him, ''Ok.. then. Do one thing, a great American psychiatrist is there named Dr. Beck, every week he conducts a seminar on 'Cognitive Therapy'. So you go and attend it."

So, one day a patient named 'Rosy' visited to Dr. Hanson. Once, Rosy had try to do suicide😐, but unfortunately she survived. As Dr. Hanson were been attending seminars recommended by his friend. So, Dr. was able to treat her with new techniques that he learned. So, Doctor asked her, "What type of Thoughts💭 you were thinking before you were trying to do suicide." She replied, 'Before trying to do suicide, I was Thinking that, I'm worthless & not of any use because I have nothing achieved🏆 something significant in my life. Such thing happens with many of us also, and they may get depressed due to it. Then Doctor says to her that, 'Rosy, you make a list and write down the things you have achieved till now'. Rosy replied, 'That's the point, Dr. I am not able to think one thing that I have achieved'. Then Dr. said, " Do one thing, take this as a home assignment so that you may find something or other -
After a week, Rosy came to doctor. Dr. asked her, "Have you done your assignment ?". Then Rosy gave a list to him in which it was written what things she had achieved so far. It was written in the list...

No. 1 - After her husband's death⚰️, she had take care of her childrens by working as a house maid and completed their education. 
No. 2 - And recently my son has joined to Military force🎖️. (She said to Doctor, Yeah! This must be a small achievement for me)
No 3. - And also I am a good chef, etc....

Than Dr. asked her, "Rosy, you have done all such things, so why you tell yourself that you have not achieved anything." Rosy said, 'I don't know ?' Then Dr. asked her, "How are  you feeling Now ?" She replied, 'Great'.

So, this way this Therapy started & it is helping most of us to reduce depression, anxiety, stress, etc. And research and studies were going on this Therapy and later  it was been proven as great effective Pyscho Therapy and also it is working till now. From Research and studies we came to know that this Cognitive Therapy is very much effective as compared to various powerful medicines on such problems.
